HealthStream is a secure, HIPAA-compliant telemedicine ecosystem. It enables doctors to conduct encrypted video consultations, manage electronic health records (EHR), and issue digital prescriptions from a single unified dashboard, bridging the gap between physical and digital healthcare.
Healthcare data is incredibly sensitive. The challenge was to build a video platform that was as easy to use as Zoom but met the strict encryption and data isolation standards of HIPAA. Latency had to be <200ms for natural conversation.
We architected a 'Zero-Trust' video platform using LiveKit SFU for scalable video and strict Row-Level Security (RLS) policies in the database to guarantee data isolation.
Zero-Trust Video: Encrypted WebRTC streams via LiveKit
Database Isolation: Supabase RLS enforces privacy at the query level
Virtual Waiting Room: Socket.io real-time queue management
Offline-First Mobile App: Syncs data when connectivity is restored
Critical for medical emergencies

"HealthStream changed how I practice medicine. The video quality is better than Zoom, and having the patient's history right there on the screen saves me 10 minutes per call."
